Having trouble deciding what ultrasound device to
purchase? This is a short guide to get you started. As always, if you have any questions, just send us an email: bellaire-industry@att.net
There are countless ultrasound devices on the market. Many look
the same and it is tempting to just buy the cheapest one. However, if you are looking for a quality device that will
impress your clients and augment the services your spa or salon offers, this guide can help you find the one that's right
for you.
- The first thing you have
to decide is: What kind of ultrasound am I looking for?
There are two main ultrasound devices: the ultrasound probe and the ultrasound skin scrubber.
Probes are used primarily for infusing topical nutrients into the skin and massaging the tissue. Skin Scrubbers can
be used to exfoliate the skin and infuse topical nutrients. - If you only need
an ultrasound device to permeate products such as serums or creams, the next question to ask is: What frequency should
I get for an ultrasound probe?
For body treatments, the 1 MHz ultrasound
(either HS-3006 or HS-3008) can be used. 1 MHz permeates the deepest so it should ONLY be used on the body. Either 2 MHz or 3 MHz devices can be used for facial treatments. 2 MHz permeates more deeply than 3 MHz but
not as deep as the 1 MHz probes so it is safe to use on the face. The 2 MHz probe (HS-3026) can be used on the body
as well. The differences between 2 MHz and 3 MHz probes are very slim but with the 3 MHz probes (HS-3050), you have
the option of having LED lights on the probe head. http://www.bellaireindustry.com/handhelds.html
- What does having LED
lights on the probe head do?
Different color LED lights have different
functions. Red LED functions in skin firming and enhanced
wound healing, a blue LED cools the skin and is anti-bacterial (perfect for treating acne), and a green LED counteracts hyper-pigmentation. It ultimately comes down to what type of treatments
you are doing. - So you want an ultrasound device that can exfoliate and infuse product:
How do you decide on a Skin Scrubber?
There's two main types
of Skin Scrubbers: tabletop and cordless. Tabletop Skin Scrubbers will
always be more powerful than the cordless scrubbers simply because they run on electricity from a power outlet. This
allows for a steady flow of electricity. Tabletop scrubbers also have the capacity for 6 PZT ceramic crystals
whereas cordless scrubbers generally have 4. More crystals means stronger blade oscillations. This equates
to better exfoliations and faster product permeations. With the tabletop scrubbers, you also do not need to worry about
battery replacements and these devices also have a longer life due to its durability. More information about our Skin
Spatula can be found at: http://www.bellaireindustry.com/spatula.html
Cordless scrubbers are great for estheticians who are always mobile,
have small treatment rooms, and are less expensive so people such as students can use these devices and try out the ultrasound
technology before moving up to tabletop scrubbers. There are some estheticians who find the cordless scrubbers completely
suitable for use in spas. Scrubbers such as the ProSkin Scrubber are powerful enough to compare in strength of
blade oscillations generated by the Skin Spatula. However, you will find that
a majority of the cordless scrubbers on the market are simply not very powerful. Cheaper scrubbers are made with cheaper
materials and as few as 2 PZT crystals so their blade oscillations are very weak. Both the ProSkin and Ezzi-Peel have
4 PZT crystals. - Does the frequency of the Skin
Scrubber effect its power?
In most cases, it does not. Even
if a scrubber is 40 KHz, if the quality and settings of the device are not properly done, it will produce very weak blade
oscillations and the improper settings could damage the electrical components and shorten the lifespan of the skin scrubber. When purchasing any ultrasound device, it is important to factor in the quality of the device, the customer service
the device comes with (both before and after sales), and the availability of servicing and repair for the device after purchase.
Always ask for a warranty and guarantee and make sure servicing is available inside the United States and not overseas.
Lower prices may look more convenient for the wallet, but if you are stuck
with a device that works for only a few months, requires lots of costly repairs, and can't provide stellar results,
the cheap device may end up costing you a lot more. However, a quality device could end up paying for itself.
